From the GM’s Office:

Children enjoyng
the bouncy castle on open day
The Open day on the 22nd
August was very successful with a number of new members joining the club.
It was an opportunity for us to show off the club and its facilities.
People on the day were very impressed with club and in
particular the friendly atmosphere.
Congratulations
to Karl Wallbank on winning the Club Championship in very difficult
conditions, his one over 72 in the worst of the conditions was particularly
impressive.
On Wednesday the 2nd September will be running a
members information evening to discuss some key topics:
*A change to
the subscription renewal date
*Changes to the policy for FTA for
competitions
*An update on the clubs financial position
*Golf

future developments

Hi
everyone,
The season is flying by and all the majors have been
played, congratulations to all the winners especially Simon de Santi who
won my prize with two excellent rounds of golf, thanks to everyone who
participated in all the major competitions and supported your officials.
We’ve had a busy time recently with many visitors playing at
our club and judging by the favourable comments received our course once
again is up with the best. I hope all of you who came to my presentation
party enjoyed the night thanks to the bar, caterers, and Justin’s
band all of whom made for a succesful night even if Simon and I tried to
spoil it by our singing.
Thanks to Simon and Claire for
organising the open day which went very well I’ll leave it to Simon
to fill you in with that, good luck in the up and coming competitions and
I’ll see you around the club.
Mick Wilson, Club
Captain
The ladies section has played the last two major comps of the year.
Lady President's day on 25th July, was won by Sandra Henckel and Mr
President's day on 15th August was won by Bet Burns. Congratulations to
Sandra and Bet on their great scores. All the ladies thoroughly enjoyed
both competitions and the hospitality of the Lady President and Mr
President.
The ladies section hosts an open on the 5th September and as usual, we
will be having a charity fair in the club house with the traditional cake
stall, bottle tombola and plant stall, so we are looking forward to seeing
as many people as possible.
Finally, I would like to wish the
ladies and the gents' team good luck in the Charity Cup on the 6th
September. Let's hope we can do as well as with the Guild Cup!
Thanks.
Joanne Startin, Lady Captain.
The season is rapidly coming to a close and there are mixed results
from the two leagues we are involved in.In the Fylde League, Ashton and Lea
should end up in the upper part of the final table with only two
results to come in. The Ribble League is more problematic, since we are a
number of games in hand because of rain-affected fixtures.
The final monthly medal will be held on Monday 14 September. The
Seniors Captain’s Prize is a celebration of the season’s golf.
Following a meal, presentations will be made for the year’s
competitions. All Seniors Section members are invited to play and/or attend
the meal.
Barry Piggott, Seniors Section Captain
The junior section has been particularly active during the
school holidays and competition entries have been high. A number of new
juniors have joined the club in the past month and we look forward to
seeing them play in competitions as soon as possible, they are all most
welcome in this thriving section of the club.
League
matches have produced a mixed bag of results. The team showed real spirit
in following a heavy defeat at the hands of Preston G.C. with a
comprehensive victory over the Leyland team and there is great promise for
the future.
Ed Lawson, Junior Chairman
GOLF COURSE
I have received some
fantastic feedback this month from guests and visiting parties about the
quality of the golf course.
We will soon be undertaking some
work on the greens to ensure that a good surface is maintained through till
the end of the season.
I have been very pleased this season how
the course has stood up to the vast amount of rain we have had and as we
continue to work on the drainage this will only improve.
Graham Swarbrick, Head Greenkeeper
PRO SHOP
We have just taken our first delivery of
KZG irons and are only the 6th.outlet for these clubs in the UK. These are
very high quality clubs designed to be customised to your own game; we can
completely fit your set from driver to putter depending on your individual
requirements.
The new G15 and i15 range from PING will be
delivered here on or around September 15th, once again they have improved
and expanded range. The range this year irons look fantastic, similar
to the brilliant i5, but with the addition of a tungsten toe weight that I
think will make a huge difference to the ball flight.
Nike
has a promotion on the Drivers, £40 voucher on the Dymo and £60
voucher on the Dymo str8 fit.

SOCIAL
It's
been a very busy time in the clubs social calendar with the first Murder
Mystery Night taking place at the beginning of the month. A good time was
had by all and due to the popularity of the event another night we be held
in the future.
Mick Wilsons' Captains Day celebration was
perhaps the night of the year with 180 members and guest rocking to the
early hours. Mick hosted a great night with the live entertainment proving
very popular.
There are a number of functions left before the
end of year including the Captains Charity Sportspersons Dinner, Quiz Night
and the Presentation night which now has a new date of the 21st November,
the Presentation of the trophies will be followed by a 3 course meal and
then a DJ providing the entertainment.
AND Finally.....
There are still some places
available in the remaining Opens, Ladies 5th September, Gents 20th
September and the Mixed on the 4th October.
