From the GM’s Office:
Let’s not get too depressed with the clocks changing and winter
being officially here, the course is in great condition and the weather
mild so make the most of it and get out on the course!
The board of directors has called a Special General Meeting for Monday
16th November at 7.30pm to propose a rule change. Hopefully
despite the postal strikes you will all receive notification of this, full
details are also on the notice boards.

Ladies section report.
The season has finished for the ladies section and Thursday
22nd October saw the first of our Winter League competitions so
good luck to everyone for the winter season and I hope we have some good
weather.
The ladies section have frequently been commenting about the quality of
the course and greens throughout the year, I have also received many
compliments from visitors about the course, so on behalf of the ladies
section, I would like to thank Graham and all the green staff for their
hard work again this year.
Joanne Startin, Lady Captain.
GOLF COURSE
What a change from last October. Last year we had approx 8”
of rain in October and this year we have had a very good month up to now
with the weather enabling us to continue cutting all areas and you the
members to enjoy more golf which hasn’t always been the case at this
time of year.
As well as trying to prepare the course as best as possible for longer
we have made a start on a number of jobs mentioned in the last report
namely the 6th green drainage and the removal of Poplars on the
7th.
The 6th green area has had approx 220 meters of new drainage
put in by contractors and hardly made any mess. As I am sure you will
agree this will help drainage on this hole and hopefully enable us to keep
this hole open more in inclement weather times.
The Poplar Trees at the side of the 7th Green have all been
removed these last few weeks “in house” by the team in a very
cost effective manner. The stumps left over will be ground out by
“Stump grinders” in the coming weeks and the area tidied
up. These trees as already mentioned in the meetings previous were at
the end of their lifespan causing problems with the drainage and becoming
dangerous.

In the coming months we will continue with more tree work deemed
necessary, improving existing pathways and start on renovating and
improving some bunkers.
Hopefully the decent weather will continue well into the winter months
enabling us to get out there and do our job and you can play as much as
possible without course closures and trolley bans. Inevitably there
will be days where this will occur but with a favorable back end these will
be minimal.
Enjoy your golf.

PRO SHOP
We are having a clearance sale of the Nike drivers they are now the
cheapest price that you will find anywhere, with the added bonus of a
voucher to spend on Nike clothing,
The Ping G/i 15 range are now in stock and we have all the fitting kit,
it is a good time to consider changing your clubs so you can fine tune them
at the start of next season.
We are in discussion with Galvin Green concerning stocking their
waterproof and clothing range, there can be no doubt that there is nothing
better on the market at this time.Galvin Green are actively closing
accounts in Lancashire at the moment and it reflects very well on the club
that they want to open a new account with Ashton and Lea.
During November we will be offering deals on re-gripping, so come into
the shop and have your grips checked out. We only use quality grips, no
seconds here!
