Ladies Charity Cup 2019 - Report from Lady Captain

The Ladies 2019 Charity Cup was played at Leyland on Sunday 1st September, when £1800.00 was raised for Derian House.

Ashton & Lea were holders of the Charity Cup and the 4-Lady Topping Team Trophy so were fired up to retain them!

Conditions were tricky due to the wind but at least it kept the rain away!  The course played long and the rough was punishing; one player was quoted as saying it was ‘Brutal’.

Scores in the 70’s were definitely lesser spotted, though not for our A & L L adies!

Congratulations to Andrea Kershaw who shot a 72 to win and retain the Charity Cup.  Commiserations go to Janet Ollerenshaw who lost out to a Chorley player on a card play-off for 2nd place with a 77!

We were unlucky again in the Topping Team Trophy.  Team members, Andrea Kershaw, Janet Ollerenshaw, Donna Gadsby and Gill Smith lost out on 1st place on a card play-off to Leyland with 312 points.

We came 3rd overall for the Jane Livesey Trophy (12 lady team). The winning team were from Leyland with Chorley 2nd.

Thanks to everyone who represented Ashton & Lea - Andrea Kershaw, Janet Ollerenshaw, Donna Gadsby (LVC), Gill Smith, Linda Wilson (LP), Joanne Startin, Belinda Wright, Jeanette Smith, Dee Duxbury, Jean Harrison, Shirley Fielding and Helen Smith (LC).

Next year’s Charity Cup will be held at Ashton & Lea on Saturday 5th September.

Although we have home advantage we are not resting on our laurels; the A & L lionesses preparations and training is now under way!
