The Fylde League Team once again proved their strength as they retained the Johnson Shield in the yearly two-leg match against Knott End Golf Club.
The contest began with the away leg at Knott End, where the match was finely balanced, Ashton edging ahead with a narrow 6.5 – 5.5 lead. With everything to play for in the return fixture, the team rose to the occasion in remarkable style, delivering an outstanding 11.5 – 0.5 win on home soil. This secured an emphatic overall victory of 18 – 6 to retain the shield.
Fylde Captain Jimmy Kay praised the team’s performance, saying:
“This was a fabulous achievement by every single player in the squad. To go away and keep things so close, and then to come back home and produce such a dominant display, shows the spirit, commitment and quality of our team. I could not be prouder.”
