Ladies Dignatories & Committees

The ladies section is run by the following dignatories and committees who meet regularly to discuss matters concerning the Ladies section, including upcoming competitions, handicaps, fundraising events and fun & social events. They are represented on the main Board of Directors by the current Lady Captain and any other elected directors from the ladies section.

The current ladies dignatories (Lady Captain [LC], Past Lady Captain [Past LC], Lady Vice Captain [LVC] and Lady President [LP]) and the members of the various ladies committees are shown below along with some information about them and what they do.

Lady Captain

Fiona Mairs

I am very proud and honoured to have been announced as Lady Captain for 2024, taking over the reigns from Carole, an extremely tough act to follow! I joined the club 30 years ago in 1994, with my husband Colin joining 4 years later after I encouraged him to take up the sport.

My chosen charity as Lady Captain is St. Catherine’s Hospice, which is a local charity and is very close to my family’s heart. As a family we have supported this charity for over 40 years, and I promised to my Mum that if I ever became Lady Captain I would choose it as my charity. Unfortunately, Mum isn’t around to witness this as she passed away in 2012 and spent the last 2 weeks of her life in the hospice. I am organising many fundraising events over the year and m y ‘piece de resistance’ for the year will be a tandem skydive on Friday 6th September. I definitely can’t remember any other Lady Captain throwing themselves out of a plane for charity! Here’s to a great golfing year in 2024”

Past Lady Captain

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who supported my 2023 charity fund raising activities for Meningitis Now. We have raised an amazing £5412.61 and had a lots of fun in the process, with activities including Elena Wren’s dance class, a garden party and plant swap, a walk in the Ribble Valley, cake decorating, Donna Gadsby’s crocheting pumpkins workshop, Xmas door wreath making and of course Jimbo’s quiz nights.

I would also like to thank the Directors for supporting my Lady Captain’s Charity Open where we had 100 ladies from other clubs coming to play at Ashton and Lea. The money has been raised in memory of my niece, Donna Heyes, who died of Meningitis at the age of 25 with a 1 year old baby. This was obviously devastating for the whole family.

The Meningitis Now Charity are so impressed with our efforts that their publicity department has contacted me. They want to write a blog of all our activities and post it on their website.

The Past Lady Captain provides support and guidance to the current the Lady Captain and is also an active member of the Ladies Committee.
